Testing resources are available to North Central students and the community.

The tutoring and Testing Center is the official location for the administration of standardized testing performed on campus and houses the North Central testing lab. The following are testing services offered by North Central:

´¡°ä°ä±«±Ê³¢´¡°ä·¡¸é®

´¡°ä°ä±«±Ê³¢´¡°ä·¡¸é® measures a candidate’s level of ability in reading, writing, and math. North Central uses this exam to determine admission into programs and the level of placement in English and Math courses. Preparation courses may be necessary before taking credit-bearing courses.

Sample questions and test-taking tips for the Next-Generation tests and WritePlacer® are available at the official ´¡°ä°ä±«±Ê³¢´¡°ä·¡¸é® website:

North Central offers ´¡°ä°ä±«±Ê³¢´¡°ä·¡¸é® by appointment at each of our campus sites:

North Central Writing Placement Exam:

North Central offers an in-house writing exam as part of the admissions and placement testing for applicants without any other qualifying scores (e.g., high school transcript, ACT®, or SAT®). The writing exam is structured as an essay response to a writing prompt and is graded by an English faculty member using an established rubric. This score, in conjunction with other math and reading scores from appropriate tests, including the ´¡°ä°ä±«±Ê³¢´¡°ä·¡¸é®, is used to determine the level of English course placement appropriate for the applicant. Developmental classes may be needed if the applicant does not meet certain criteria.

For more information about the exam and how to prepare and schedule, contact the Tutoring and Testing Center, 231-348-6682 or ttc@ncmich.edu

The General Education Development (GED) test consists of four subject areas: Reasoning through Language Arts, Science, Mathematical Reasoning, and Social Studies. Passing all four GED test subjects gives those who did not complete high school a high school equivalency credential. ÌÀÍ·Ìõapp, along with a substantial majority of American and Canadian colleges and universities, requires either a high school or state diploma to enroll. In the absence of this diploma, North Central and approximately 98% of accredited universities will accept a GED certificate in its place.

Before you take your GED:

  • You can purchase the official GED practice test at the website:
